There’s a trend happening in kitchens right now that I’m just not sold on… lighting in the toe kick area.
I understand why people are drawn to it. It creates a soft glow at night, adds ambiance and gives kitchens that high-end, custom look people see all over Pinterest and Instagram right now.
But all I can think is: why are we illuminating the floor?
Maybe it’s because I’m not the world’s greatest housekeeper, but I don’t need a spotlight on every crumb in the kitchen.
For me, lighting should highlight the things you actually want people to notice. The cabinetry, the materials, the texture, the details and the overall warmth of the space.
This is one of those moments where real life wins over trends.
